The Health Facility Infection Control General Department, in cooperation with the Dental General Department, organized a course dubbed: “Infection Control in Dental Settings”. The course aims at promoting the scientific and technical performance level of workers in the field of dentistry through direct training providing them with the latest scientific knowledge in the field of infection control.
In the opening speech delivered by Dr. Abu Bakr Al-Ja’fari, on behalf of the Director General of the Health Facility Infection Control General Department, affirmed that the Department’s keenness to follow the infection prevention methods in dental clinics, as dentistry is one of the surgical professions that require the direct contact of the medical staff to tissues and oral fluids including blood and saliva; which increases the risk of infection not only to non-infected patients, but to the medical staff themselves.
Afterwards, the Assistant Medical Director in Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Hospital, Dr. Nael Hatata gave a speech in which he stated that the target of this course is to raise awareness among workers in the field of dentistry about the significance of following the methods of infection prevention in dental clinics.
The course covered the following topics: (Fundamentals of Microbiology) presented by an infection prevention doctor in dental clinics in the Health Facility Infection Control General Department, Dr.Klara Harden, as well as (ways of transmission of infectious diseases in dental clinics, methods to be followed to prevent such diseases and methods of infection control in dental labs) present by Dr.Abu Bakr Al-Ja’fari.
Moreover, the Supervisor of Curative Programs at the Infection Prevention and Control General Department Dr. Ali Al Remeikhan presented a lecture dubbed: “Water in Dental Clinics”. Afterwards, the Technician at the Infection Prevention and Control General Department, Mr. Saud Al Shammeri presented a lecture titled: “Sterilization of Dental Tools”.
In conclusion, Dr.Al-Ja’fari expressed his sincere thanks to all participants in the course, hoping for more success, and underscoring the importance of holding such scientific courses in this field periodically; in order to provide workers at the dentistry field with scientific updates in infection control.
