14 June 2011
HE Minister of Health, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Rabeeah, signed a SR 12,950,000 deal with the Devoteam Company to implement a system for the exchange of electronic services for the Kingdom’s health insurance scheme (SHIB). HE said that the Cooperative Health Insurance Council aims to keep pace with insurance industry developments. The new online scheme will help insurance companies and health service providers to communicate with each other in an efficient, effective and timely manner. This enhanced communication will contribute greatly in achieving the Cooperative Health Insurance Council’s goals to supervise and develop the private sector’s health insurance system and enhance the overall quality of healthcare insurance services in the Kingdom.

Under the new electronic program (SHIB), the services offered would include registration and verification of the accuracy and legitimacy of insurance cards issued to policy holders; the program will also provide a comprehensive database of all operations in the health insurance sector. Many services, including insurance coverage, payment of claims and approval for medical treatment could be received by the policy holder electronically.
