MOH, through the General Directorate of Medical Supply, has worked for introducing the latest techniques for storing drugs and medical necessities. A strategy for the coming five years, based on updating the infrastructure and introducing modern techniques, has been adopted. Coordination has been made between MOH, the Executive office of the GCC Council of Health Ministers, GS1 Saudi Arabia, and GS1 International in Brussels for implementing the Bar Code System. MOH has adopted the Bar Code System for all drugs and medical necessities registered through GS1 Saudi Arabia. More than 14 thousand items have been bar coded till now and MOH will never accept any product unless it is bar coded in accordance with the unified system approved in Saudi Arabia and the GCC countries. MOH has been honoured by GS1 Saudi Arabia as the first Ministry to implement the system.
