04 November 2007
The MOH General Directorate of Health Information and Public Relations Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Marghlani valued the support offered by the Royal Court to the GCC Health Economics Conference and the patronage provided to the conference by the Minister of Health Dr. Hamad Al-Manae. He described such support and patronage as representing the care offered to the efforts aiming at promoting the health services, including formulation and application of plans and policies as well as undertaking the measurements necessary for reducing the rates of chronic diseases, especially diabetes.

He said the conference, which is organized by MOH at the Riyadh Intercontinental Hotel in coordination with the Executive Office of GCC Council of Health Ministers and the World Health Organization, during the period from 22 to 24/11/1428, being 3 to 5/11/2007, confirms the commitment of the GCC ministries of health to place confrontation of diabetes on the top of their agenda of health policies.

Dr. Al-Marghalani said MOH has prepared an integrative plan for combating diabetes, including creation of a number of preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitation programs. Twenty diabetes health centers will be opened for providing comprehensive services.

He said the conference will concentrate on establishing a comprehensive health umbrella for protecting GCC societies from diabetes and its complications. Other objectives include boosting health awareness, supporting early discovery programs, and providing integrative health care.
