Culminative Number of Cases and Deaths
The first avian influenza case was recorded in Hong Kong in 1997. This first outbreak resulted in the death of 6 cases (out of 18). In 2003, an outbreak occurred in a number of East Asian countries. Following is a statistic of the laboratory-confirmed cases reported to the WHO from 26/12/2003 till 20/11/2007:
