Dr. Faqiha Provides Tips to the Pilgrims with orthopedic Disorders
17 October 2012
Dr. Jameel Faqiha, an orthopedic consultant, offered some tips to patients with orthopedic and bone disease,  who would like to perform the Hajj this year. Taking caution when walking for a long was most notably of the tips and with the advice of wearing shock-absorbent and soften shoes. These topics have been discussed at Ministry of Health Media Information and Health Awareness Center through the program dubbed: “Pilgrims' Health Is Our Concern”  via toll-free number: 8,002,494,444 for the consecutive eighth year.

Dr. Faqiha advised people with osteoporosis not to get inside crowded places, jump or slide.  Because falling down may lead to fracture - God forbid. Also people having bone weakness can be fractured easier than the others.  Dr. Faqiha recommended people patients with bone and spine diseases  not to carry heavy loads and follow the right way when weightlifting or carrying loads without bending their back and sleep directly on the floor as well. He said  that anyone can perform pilgrimage as long as he can walk, whether on foot or on wheelchair.

Concerning medical bag of bone and spine diseases in pilgrimage, Dr. Faqiha said that the bag should contain bandage, laxative muscles ointments, sedatives of pain and muscle cramp, lawn, plasters of wounds, sedatives of headache and ointment of exfoliation between the thighs.
Dr. Faqiha answered many questions through Ministry of Health social network, stressing that treatment of roughness of knee depends on its degree and no medication can be taken before checking patient and knowing the cause of roughness and its degree. He explained that if roughness is Class I Class II, patient is recommended to take sedatives, however, if it is Class III or IV, patient may need complete artificial joint. But if he has high roughness and was fractured before, his knee may need artificial joint. Dr. Faqiha advised to check whether there is osteoporosis in the bones or not.

As for the best treatment for pain of lower back, he stressed that medication depends on the cause of the pain by strengthening the muscles of the lower back and carrying heavy loads properly.

Responding to the question: “Is femur insufficiency hereditary or related to delivery?”, Dr. Faqiha asserted that insufficiency happens due to many reasons: insufficiency of higher femur leads to little growth in this part comparing to that of the other side, indirect cause caused by hip joint removal leads to unequal sides lengthwise, or due to ischemic hip.
