12,000+ Major Surgeries Performed by King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital Last Year

​In its recent report, MOH stated that King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital has admitted 13,119 new cases, 6,711 cases through Ehalati program from all Kingdom's regions, in addition to other 4,548 cases. ​

The report indicated that 2,151 patients were examined in the peripheral regions through the medical cooperation program, in coordination with the regional health affairs, in addition to 500 surgical operations and 138 retinal laser treatment sessions. According to patient service statistics, outpatient clinics served over 4 million patient since the establishment of the hospital.

In the same vein, over the past year, 257,194 patients were served by outpatient clinics and 38,537 patients by emergency department. During the same period, the hospital performed 12,277 major surgeries, 916 cornea transplant (keratoplasty), replacement of corneal endothelial cells and Descemet membrane (for the first time in the Kingdom), as well as 9 artificial cornea transplant surgeries, which helped patients to restore vision after years of suffering from blindness.

 Also, patient call center, which has obtained the first place in (937) cervices center's performance indicator at 97% rate, handled 340,000 calls. The report indicated that the capacity of outpatient clinics was geared up by 20% at the beginning of 2019 and the capacity of operating rooms by 16% at the beginning of the first quarter of 2019.

It is noteworthy that King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital is the first-of-its-kind in the region and the only one with an integrated eye bank in the Gulf. It is the leading Arab medical facility in eye researching, published about 105 researches in international peer-reviewed journals.
