22 March 2018

According to Najran Health Affairs, the region’s doctors have successfully conducted 2,484 surgeries during the last two months; thus, contributing to alleviate patients' sufferings for seeking treatment outside the region by handling critical and sophisticated cases.

"The region’s hospitals have been enhanced with physicians who have long experiences at advanced hospitals and medical centers in order to provide high quality treatment services to the region's citizens. Since the beginning of the year, the hospitals attracted 73 physicians in different specialties, namely: open-heart surgeries, neurosurgery, spinal surgery and pediatrics, as well as urinary tract and oncology specialties", adds the Affairs.

The Affairs also pointed out that, during the same period, the medical staff has conducted 10 advanced open-heart surgeries and 224 cardiac catheterizations at Prince Sultan Cardiac Center, as well as conducting 30 quality surgeries for accident patients in neurosurgery and spine specialties. In addition, the Eye Center of King Khaled Hospital conducted 232 surgeries including corneal transplantation, vision correction, corneal fixation and cataract. They also conducted 50 delicate surgeries for podiatric diseases and other ones for blood vessels and bones.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has increased cardiac diagnosis of the newborn from 20% to 90% during 2017. In its 2017 achievements report, MOH stated that this process has helped early detect cases with congenital heart disease (CHD), treat them in initial phases, improve the health of cardiac children, and reduce the burden and economic cost for both patients and the state.

Likewise, MOH has increased the hearing diagnosis of the newborn from 17% to 89%. By Allah’s Grace, this has helped early detect cases of hearing defects, treat them in their initial stages; thus, enabling the newborn to enjoy a normal life free from hearing impairments. To do so, MOH has boosted the efficiency of the medical teams in Newborn Units through continuous training, policies and guidelines, as well as new indicators that help monitor performance.
