By Allah’s Grace, doctors of King Saud Hospital – Unaizah have successfully implanted an inferior vena cava filter for a patient suffering from venous thrombosis in her lower right limb and bladder bleeding. Her case could not be treated with blood thinners lest they should increase her bleeding; thus, posing a risk of pulmonary embolism and a threat to her life. So, doctors decided to conduct a catheter through her left femoral artery, whereby they implanted an inferior vena cava filter to prevent pulmonary embolism. The 30-minutes procedure was done in the catheter unit through the laparoscope. Thank Allah the procedure was successful and the patient was discharged from the hospital in good health.
It is noted that such procedure is the first-of-its-kind in the hospital, as all similar cases used to be referred to Riyadh.
