King Khaled Hospital-Najran: Child's Kidney Saved Without Surgical Intervention
21 February 2018

By Allah’s Grace, doctors at King Khaled Hospital-Najran has successfully saved a 14-year old child's kidney after having an injury that caused heavy bleeding, a 3rd grade laceration in his right kidney and loss of hemoglobin. According to Najran Health Affairs, the child was resuscitated once he arrived at hospital by providing him with blood and its products. After the child's case stabilized, he was taken to the radiology intervention center where the bleeding artery was identified and handled so that the bleeding stopped after a thorough medical operation using the interventional radiology technology with no need for a surgical intervention. The operation was conducted under the supervision of a medical team from the general surgery and radiology sections that credited – after Allah -for avoiding surgical intervention that might cause total nephrectomy.

After that, the patient was admitted into the intensive care unit for further treatment. Then, he was moved into inpatient ward where he received medical care for 12 days. During this period, the kidney functions have been monitored and examination displayed that it is functioning properly, so the patient was discharged from the hospital in good health, thank Allah,

It is worth mentioning that the Interventional Radiology Center at King Khaled Hospital is the only center of its type in the region and it carries out a great role in treating several cases without surgical intervention. The Center conducted throughout the last year more than 20 cases of stopping bleeding and life-saving using catheter by qualified medical consultants in the field of radiology.
