Traffic Accident Patient Has Successful Vertebra Immobilization
19 February 2018

By Allah's Grace, a team of neurosurgeons at Dammam Medical Complex have successfully immobilized L-1 vertebra for a patient injured in a traffic accident. This first-of-its-kind procedure featured craniotomies to reduce brain pressure, in addition to a surgery to stabilize the patient's fractured L-1. Then, He is now hospitalized for due treatment. Unlike conventional surgery, this procedure involved limited intervention, whereby screws and plates were installed through tiny incisions (1.5cm size) using the neuro-navigation system. As well, it takes shorter time, and reduces lost blood, with minimal post-surgery inflammations. The team used in this procedure the state-of-the-art neuro-navigation system during installing screws, while getting real-time CT images through the O-arm imaging device.
