King Abdullah Medical City: Laryngeal Carcinoma Excised from Man in his 50s

By Allah's Grace, an integrated medical team of King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah has successfully conduced a sophisticated surgery for a patient in his 50s who has been suffering from laryngeal carcinoma for a year. After due lab and radiological tests, an advanced surgical plan was developed featuring three stages over 10 consecutive hours. First, the Head and Neck Surgery team removed the infected lymphoma from the patient's neck. Then, the infected larynx was also removed, while completely excising the carcinoma with all its extensions and preparing for the third stage. After that, both the patient's larynx and pharynx were reconstructed to enable him to swallow. Also, a larynx-like opening was made between the trachea and the esophagus to allow him to talk in the future. Thank Allah the surgery left no complications. The patient was taken from ICU to the surgical ward for further medication. He is now good health.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has launched recently the (e-health) application to facilitate access to visual medical consultations on smartphones. In so doing, MOH seeks to employ cutting-edge technologies to enhance effective communication with service-beneficiaries , and to allow them get the needed specialized medical consultations.

According to MOH, the first stage of using the new App. will cover Northern Borders, Asir, Tabuk, Jazan, Najran and Al-Jouf Health Affairs. Then, the App. will be used across the Kingdom, by Allah's Leave

The App. is designed to enable audio-video communication from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. during working days, as well as weekends from 1 p.m. to 12 a.m. Accordingly, users can login into the application, communicate directly with a specialist, and have their cases diagnosed through the application. Hence, the specialist answers users' inquiries, provide the needed medical consultation and the necessary medical procedure.
