02 November 2017
A specialized surgical team at Al-Ansar Hospital-Madinah has successfully ended the suffering of a woman with gallstones that couldn’t be resected using oral endoscopy. The patient was admitted to the hospital, while suffering from severe abdominal pains. After due x-rays and medical examinations, she was diagnosed with gallstone (sized 8 mm). Then, the surgical team decided to conduct a laparoscopic surgery on the patient to resect the gallstones from the bile duct as well as the gall bladder. By Allah’s Grace, the 90-minute surgery was successful and the patient was discharged from hospital in good health.

It is worth mentioning that Al-Ansar Hospital (with a 100-bed capacity) receives increasing numbers outpatients due to its location close to the Prophet's Mosque. According to 1438H. statistics, the hospital served 4,576 inpatients, 55,537 outpatients, and 410,913 ER cases. Also, it performed 90,689 x-ray examinations, 839,965 lab tests, 266 minor and 539 major surgeries, in addition to 504 one-day operations.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently implementing MOH's Performance Program, which aims to boost productivity, performance quality and efficiency of health services in hospitals. The program is in line with the strategic objectives of the National Transformation Program 2020 towards achieving the Saudi Vision 2030. The program covers 70 main hospitals and features over 40 indicators to measure the performance of seven key therapeutic aspects, which have positively reduced the waiting times.
