The MOH Safety General Department has recently organized a training course targeting hospital safety supervisors. The course was attended by 28 trainees representing 28 hospitals from all over the Kingdom. It lasted for five days, and comprised 18 lectures on safety basics, such as the measures and procedures of firefighting, fire systems, risk registration system and safety standards. The course involved, besides, practical training on firefighting and the use of respirators.
The Director-General of Safety, Eng. Anas Al-Zayd, pointed out that this course comes within the framework of the Ministry's vigorous preparations for the evaluation of hospitals by the Central Board of Accreditation for Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI). “This is reckoned the first activity to be adopted by the Safety General Department, formed under the Ministry's new organizational structure,” Al-Zayd said.
He added that the department is about to organize two additional courses aiming to cover all the accredited hospitals. There are four major objectives for this course: promotion of safety supervisors' knowledge, assessment of their performance, enhancement of their preparedness to accreditation, and creating a means of communication among them to spread out the culture of safety in the whole society.
Eng. Al-Zayd went on to say that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is keen to raise the level of safety at all health facilities depending on two fundamental pillars: training and ongoing follow-up. To that end, a strategic plan has been developed in pursuit of protection against catastrophes. Meanwhile, he called upon all health workers to strictly comply with the hospital safety requirements.
