His Excellency the Minister of Health, Mr. Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Jalajel, will lead the Kingdom’s delegation in the 70th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean to be held at the WHO Regional Office in Cairo under the theme “United for a healthier future ”. The 70th Session will begin Monday, October 9th and last up to Thursday, October 12th, 2023.The 70th session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean will address many themes and topics of the most important challenges facing public health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, including eradicating polio, expanding the scope of work in the field of mental health care, and setting a framework for this expansion. They also include implementing a regional framework to end neonatal, children and adolescent mortality, and improve their health and development, in addition to accelerating the region’s implementation of the political declaration emanated from the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly, on prevention and control of non-infectious diseases (non-communicable diseases). A final report will also be presented to member states on the progress made, achievements, and challenges in achieving the Kingdom Vision 2023, in addition to enhancing public health preparedness for massive human gatherings in the region. The session will also witness the announcement of the new candidate for the position of Regional Director of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean. It is worth noting that the meeting of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean is held periodically every year in the presence of health ministers of the Eastern Mediterranean region, United Nations agencies, and international and regional organizations. The meeting aims to enhance cooperation between the countries of the region through research and discussion of common health files to achieve sustainable healthcare and maintain a healthier future for the countries of the Eastern Mediterranean region.
