Replacing a Patient's Mitral Valve Instead of an Animal Valve she had Transplanted outside the Kingdom

Cardiologists in Qassim region were able to perform a successful high-risk open-heart operation for a patient whose calcified mitral valve was removed and another valve was implanted. The surgery took 6 hours – All Praises be to Allah.

Qassim Health Cluster confirmed that a specialized medical team at Prince Sultan Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery received a lady patient who visited the center suffering from shortness of breath that was occurring with moderate efforts, but the condition worsened within one year to show the respiratory problem upon any simple effort she made. Noting that after conducting basic and necessary clinical and laboratory tests; The mitral valve was severely stenotic and calcified.
The treating medical team confirmed that it was clear the patient underwent heart surgery nine years ago abroad, an “East Asian country,” in which the same valve was replaced by an animal one. The decision was made immediately to repeat the old outpatient surgery, to plan a high-risk surgery, and to implant a new metal valve in place of the previous valve after it had been removed. And it was crowned with success, thanks to Allah, and the patient was discharged from the center in a stable condition on the sixth day of the surgery, for follow-up in the outpatient department on a regular basis to return to her normal life.
It is worth noting that doctors of Prince Sultan Cardiac Center in Qassim were able to perform more than 78 operations during the first half of this year.
