Health Department in Jeddah said that the emergency department at King Abdullah Medical Complex received an injured person after he was hit with a sharp instrument on the right side of the face, which caused him major deformities in the face and lacerations in the tissues and bone of the lower jaw during two separate surgeries to restore the shattered jaw on the right side of the face, and replaced the jawbone.
The medical team supervising treatment of the case said that first aid was provided as soon as the case arrived at the emergency department and necessary medical examinations were performed, which showed severe laceration of the tissues and bone of the lower jaw, where the case was studied with specialized medical teams and it was decided to perform two separate operations, where the first was performed by a medical team specialized in maxillofacial surgery after an urgent and accurate operation, given the seriousness of the case. The first surgery lasted 6 hours to stop the bleeding and perform an initial restoration of the right side of the face without any complications, so that the patient was transferred to intensive care until the condition stabilized, and then a second surgical operation was started, in which a substitute for the right jawbone was installed. The second surgery took 3 hours, after which the patient was transferred to hospitalization rooms for treatment follow-ups with specialized nursing teams and other specialties until his condition stabilized and discharged safely.
It is noteworthy that the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah provided medical services to 1,678 patients during the first quarter of 2023.
