Urgent Surgery to Stop Bleeding in the Skull of an Infant in Al-Jawf

​​​Medical teams specializing in neurosurgery in Al-Jouf region managed to save the life of an infant who fell from a high place on his head, causing him a complete coma, and an urgent surgical intervention for 3 hours was crowned with success, praise be to Allah.

Ministry of Health in Al-Jawf said that the surgical medical teams at Prince Miteb bin Abdulaziz Hospital in Sakaka received a notification late at night from one of the region hospitals of a case of a child that requires urgent surgical intervention. Clinical, laboratory and analytical examinations confirmed the presence of severe bleeding in the skull with a deviation of the mid-brain line.
And it emphasized that the child was placed on a respirator and urgent emergency services were provided to preserve the child’s life, coordination between the concerned departments, and the presence of the medical staff including neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, an intensive care specialist and a pediatric surgery specialist to receive the case and immediately admit him to the operations department urgently to perform surgery to stop the bleeding.
The medical teams treating the case confirmed that the patient was hypnotized under general anesthesia with a surgical incision in the right parietal lobe and removal of the skull bones, which revealed severe bleeding from the main artery of the dura mater of the brain. The bleeding was emptied very urgently to decrease the pressure on the brain, which led the patient to complete coma, the source of bleeding was controlled, and its source was closed by a bipolar electric cautery device, and the meningeal membranes of the brain were lifted to prevent recurrent bleeding in the brain, and the skull bones were fixed, followed by closing the wound with a surgical stapler.
And it indicated that after performing the delicate surgical intervention, the child was transferred to the intensive care department to follow up on his condition by the medical and nursing teams until the child’s health condition stabilizes and he is safely discharged from the hospital.
It is noteworthy that the hospital's emergency department received 8,783 patients last month, while the number of inpatients reached 601 patients, and 8417 patients visited outpatient clinics, while the number of surgeries reached 192.
