Saving the life of a pilgrim whose heart stopped in Al Haram

​​​​​The rapid response team at King Abdullah Medical City was able to save the life of a Pakistani pilgrim whose heart stopped for about 120 seconds while he was performing Umrah. Makkah Healthcare Cluster confirmed that the Medical City Emergency Department received the patient’s condition through the hotline service after urgent primary care was provided to him at Al-Haram Hospital. After coordination and speedy handling of the case, he was transferred to the Medical City, which in turn carried out the necessary tests and a CT scan, which showed severe stenosis of the aortic valve with weakness of the Myocardium.The medical team immediately decided to subject the patient to an urgent operation in which the aorta was successfully dilated and placed on an extracorporeal oxygenation (ECMO) device, due to the weakness of the cardiac muscle. His condition was followed up in the cardiac intensive care unit until he recovered, praise be to Allah, and he left the hospital in good health.The Cluster stated that the continuous cooperation and integrated coordination between the various sectors of the health cluster and the medical city made dealing with such cases orderly and achieved positive and fruitful results.Praises to Allah, and then thanks to the generous and blessed support given by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his trustworthy Crown Prince, to advance health services in the Kingdom, to keep pace with global development and progress, to match the major international medical references, and to provide quality services to the guests of Al Haram, including pilgrims and Umrah performers.
