The Ministry of Health (MOH) has released the Acute Hazardous Medical Waste Classification Guidelines, which aim to develop a proper control method for processing, sorting, storage, transportation, treatment and safe disposal of hazardous medical waste, in addition to its classification in accordance with health and environmental regulations and rules.
It is noted that the guidelines technically come in line with the executive regulations of the unified system of hazardous medical waste in GCC countries, and the directives of the World Health Organization. Also, they target all governmental and private health facilities throughout the Kingdom, which came into effect as of 14/12/2020 (corresponding to 29/4/1442 H.). By Allah’s Grace, applying these guidelines has contributed to reducing the average amount of hazardous medical waste generated by health facilities by 28% less than what was generated before the issuance of this guide.
