12 April 2022

According to Hail Health Cluster, a specialized medical team of King Salman Specialist Hospital (KSSH) has successfully saved three diabetic feet form amputation after suffering from peripheral arterial disease (PAD) due to diabetes. The first case was suffering from Chronic Diabetic Foot Ulcers (CDFU) with an external iliac artery obstruction, which caused a poor blood circulation in the feet. A catheterization was performed to him using the interventional radiology (IR) technique, then the artery was reopened and expanded, and a stent was placed. Thus, the blood flow was returned to the foot, which contributed to the speed of wound healing in the foot. As for the other two cases, a catheterization was also performed using IR technique. They were unable to walk short distances; due to blocked femoral artery and the arteries below the knee joint.
