13 June 2021

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that obese people are the most vulnerable to COVID-19 infection and its severe complications, stressing that the vaccine should be taken for protection while implementing preventive measures.

In this regard, MOH has released many infographics via its Twitter and ‘Live Well’ Awareness Platform about obesity and its associated diseases, indicating that obesity can weaken the immune system, causes chronic inflammation and blood clotting, all of which can lead to worsening of the disease, advising the obese to reduce weight and contribute to a lower risk of infection.

It indicated that the health risks linked to obesity include, heart disease, asthma (moderate to severe), high blood pressure, kidney disease, lung disease, and metabolic syndrome.
