According to Madinah Health Affairs, King Fahad Hospital has introduced histocompatibility testing for kidney transplantation. The new integrated unit conducts all necessary histocompatibility testing for renal patients prior to transplantation; thus contributing to reducing waiting lists for dialysis patients.
Also, the unit will speed up the tissue compatibility procedures and shorten the transplant waiting list. It plans to expand the histocompatibility testing to include transplantation of other organs such as liver, lungs, pancreas, and bone marrow, it added.
