MOH Outlines Benefits of Breastfeeding for Mother and Child
09 March 2021

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has underlined the importance of breastfeeding for both infants and their mothers, as breastfeeding protects babies from many diseases and infections, and contains everything they need to grow well.

Through an introductory infographic published on its Twitter’s account and awareness platform: “Live Well”, MOH indicated that breastfeeding’s benefits include providing all required nutrients and strengthening your child's immunity. Unlike formula, breast milk is easier to digest and it reduces colic and diarrhea, as well as obesity and diabetes, and the incidence of milk allergy and eczema.

It added that breastfeeding strengthens the bond between the mother and child and helps to prevent postpartum bleeding. It also helps the uterus to return to its normal size. Breastfeeding can also be a form of birth control and reduces the risk of diabetes and breast and ovarian cancer.

These awareness-raising activities come in a continuation of the MOH’s endeavors to maintain the individuals’ health and well-being and encouraging them to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
