MOH Activates Saudi Walking Day
05 March 2021

The Ministry of Health (MOH) will activate the Saudi Walking Day, which falls on 5 March of every year, in all Kingdom’s regions and governorates, with the aim of promoting public health, spreading the culture of walking, increasing the number of walkers and helping more than 500,000 people with chronic diseases.

MOH has announced the launch of “Walk Challenge” event on March 10, 2021, which is a competition based on a daily target of step count (not less than 8,000 steps per day). The selected winners will receive incentive awards on a weekly basis. Participation is available via “Sehaty” app, and the sport may be practiced at the nearest location while adhering to social distancing and preventive measures to maintain your health.

It is noteworthy that walking helps reduce the level of harmful cholesterol, burn extra calories, maintain joint flexibility and muscle strength, reduce anxiety and depression, improve mood, promote bone health, prevent osteoporosis, improve balance and blood flow in the body, and maintain a healthy weight and improve physical fitness. It also helps prevent chronic diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.

These awareness-raising activities come in a continuation of the MOH’s endeavors to maintain the individuals’ health and well-being and encouraging them to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
