Al-Qurayyat Health Affairs Launches Breast Cancer Early Screening Campaign
06 October 2020

In parallel with the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (the Pink Month) observed every October, Al-Qurayyat Health Affairs has launched Breast Cancer Early Screening Campaign under the theme: (#Conduct_Breast_Cancer_Screening Now) across all affiliated health facilities. The campaign aims to urge women at the age of 40 and older to come forward for early screening, as it is the only means to detect the disease in its early stages, with a recovery rate of more than 95%, Allah willing.

The Affairs indicated that on average, an individual woman has a 1-in-8 chance of developing breast cancer. However, the risk of breast cancer can be reduced by following a number of tips, including screening with mammograms every one to two years at the age of 40 years and older, getting early screening if there is a family history of the disease, avoiding menopause hormone therapy (HT), practicing physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day, eating a healthy diet rich in vegetables and fruits, preventing obesity and weight gain, breastfeeding, and early childbearing before age 30.

It is noted that this campaign comes as part of the Affairs’ awareness efforts to maintain the health and safety of all members of society, and to promote healthy lifestyles.
