14 July 2020

MOH stated that 132 patients with COVID-19 have benefited from treatment with plasma taken from people who have recovered from COVID-19. This came within a study in which several top researchers and research centers in the Kingdom participated.  It added that the research team is constantly working to expand the scope of the study in all regions of the Kingdom, in order to prepare the health facilities wishing to participate in the research.

The research continues to attract donations from people who have recovered from COVID-19 through the study official website and Twitter page or special phone number. More than 18,000 interested people from inside and outside the Kingdom have visited the study website over the past few weeks, MOH explained.

It stressed that this study’s results are only preliminary and have shown no signs of a risk. This treatment is a safe procedure that could be very useful for patients, especially in early stages of the infection. However, the research requires some time in order to confirm the results of the study. They will then be assessed and published in the near future.

MOH concluded that the study has involved 20 hospitals from different health sectors in the Kingdom to date. Furthermore, many other hospitals have expressed a strong desire to participate in this study. Also, there are more than 634 donors. Such large number reflects a growing interest of community in studies and researches.
