According to Najran Health Affairs, over the past year 2019, Najran hospitals provided their medical services to more than 1.2 million patients and performed around 20,000 surgeries.
The cardiac center of King Khaled Hospital performed 103 open-heart surgeries, 1,120 diagnostic and 960 therapeutic catheterization, it said, adding that the hospital specialized centers served 40,000 patients, including 15,019 at renal dialysis sections. Also, the oncology center clinics served 4,510 patients, and PIPAC procedures (Pressurized IntraPeritoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy) were successfully performed in ten patients, through which a chemical dose is given in an endoscopy. This medical procedure benefits patients with non-ectopic peritoneal tumors by changing chemotherapy into steam therapy through injecting it into the peritoneum by compressed air sprays. The clinics also successfully performed ten HIPEC procedures, the heated chemotherapy, to remove peritoneal membranes.
"Also, the diabetes center served 16,825 patients, the obesity center performed 124 obesity surgeries and 1,357 patients benefited from the surgical endoscopy services. The ophthalmology center performed 3,194 procedures, including 1189 for eye correction. According to Najran specialized dental center's statistics, the center performed 512 maxillofacial surgeries, 1,450 fixed orthodontic and 262 mobile orthodontic, 577 orthodontics and 39,667 glass ionomer and cosmetic fillings", adds the Affairs.
It pointed out that the home medicine teams in Najran hospitals conducted 25,000 visits benefitting 1,089 patients in the region, and the laboratory and blood banks department conducted 484,000 lab tests, 30 blood donation campaigns with the participation of 10,400 donors, as well as 6,301 premarital screening during the same period.
It is noteworthy that a number of the region's hospitals have obtained the accreditation of the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI). They total 5 hospitals, including Sharurah and Hubuna hospitals, which were accredited in 20019. Also, 4 primary healthcare centers were accredited bringing the total to 14 centers.
