Recently, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has issued a handbook for midwives as a main reference for the scope of midwifery practice, skills to be honed and ethical responsibilities of midwife. The guidebook includes several topics, such as: scope of midwifery practice, midwives' competencies, job description and privileges, as well as code of ethics for midwives.
It is noteworthy that the establishment of the midwife department aims to achieve MOH's strategic objectives, including organizing the midwifery profession and developing their performance. The role of midwives centers on providing support and healthcare during pregnancy and birth and for the newborns. They also contribute in reducing morbidity and mortality among mothers and newborns, as well as promoting the healthy lifestyles through prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
