MOH: School Bags Should Be Less than 10% of Student's Body Weight

​​​​The Ministry of Health (MOH) has underlined the importance of selecting the proper school bag that contains a number of pockets to distribute the weight evenly over the body parts. Through an infographic published in its Twitter's page, MOH has stressed that the weight on students' back should be less than 10% of their body weight. ​

It stressed that student with persistent back pain must see a doctor to avoid adverse consequences, and warned against carrying heavy school bags because they are the most important causes of back pain and spinal deformities. It called for reducing the load on the students by carrying books and arranging the bag in accordance with the daily schedule, and teaching the student the proper way to carry the school bag. It said that the wheeled bag may also causes pain in the back and shoulder. 
 
Such awareness-raising activities come in continuation of MOH's efforts to maintain the health and safety of all community members, to promote health awareness and to urge individuals to adopt healthy behaviors. It also come in line with the awareness campaign carried out by MOH under the theme: "My Healthy School".
