01 April 2019

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has underlined the importance of balanced nutrition for the health of mother and baby. It advised pregnant women to choose healthy foods with high nutritional value, stressing that food quality is more important than food quantity.

Through an Infographic published in its twitter page, within the campaign "#Healthy Pregnancy", MOH advised pregnant woman to avoid eating uncooked meat and eggs, raw fish, shellfish, fish with high levels of mercury, as well as taking plenty of oily fish, caffeine and unpasteurized milk."

According to MOH, when making the decision to get pregnant, women must adhere to vaccination, take appropriate pre-pregnancy vaccines, and vitamin D supplements to promote teeth and bones health, as well as eating iron-rich foods to avoid anemia and taking folic acid supplements, until week 13 of your pregnancy. It is important to consult your doctor before taking any medications or supplements.

Such awareness-raising activities come in continuation of MOH's efforts to maintain the health and safety of all community members, to promote health awareness and to urge individuals to adopt healthy behaviors.
