26 March 2019

According to Jeddah Health Affairs, a hybrid cardiac catheterization lab has been introduced to King Abdullah Medical Complex to enable cardiologists to perform open-heart surgery and cardiac catheterization simultaneously. It is one of state-of-the-art technologies. Also, another catheterization lab has been approved.

The Cardiac Center at King Abdullah Medical Complex in Jeddah is an important specialized center enhanced with cutting-edge medical devices including standard catheterization, echocardiography (ECHO), ECG, Stents and heart failure support devices such as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) and heart muscle temporary support device. Also, the center provided cardiac CT scan, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, and cardiac surgery and is enhanced with an open-heart operating room.

It is noteworthy that the complex, in 2018, has successfully performed 1,490 cardiac catheterization procedures and 72 open-heart surgeries for adults. Also, the complex provided medical therapeutic services to 8,594 patients and served 7,321 patients at cardiac outpatient clinics and 1,273 inpatients during the same period.

These steps come in line with MOH's efforts to achieve one of its objectives in the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020, in terms of improving the health care provided before hospitalization and at emergency and ICU departments of main hospitals. Also, this goal is related to one of the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, in terms of improving the quality of both preventive and therapeutic healthcare services.
