Hafr al-Batin: An Old Person Restores Mobility

A team of neurosurgeons at Hafr al-Batin Central Hospital has successfully ended the 8-moth sufferings of an elderly person in his 70s. He could not walk, and lost control on his natural functions of excretion. He also failed completely to stand up, and was wheelchair-bound.  The patient was brought to the neurosurgery clinic. After due medical checkups and MRI on his spine, he was diagnosed with a tumor on the third thoracic vertebra; thus, requiring emergency surgical intervention. Through being a sophisticated operation on the spine of an old patient, the 3-hour surgery was successful, and thank Allah the tumor was resected. Three days after, the patient could feel his lower limbs again. Presently, he is under rehabilitation to activate the muscles of his lower limbs once more.

It is noted that the Ministry of Health (MOH) is currently implementing MOH's Performance Program, which aims to boost productivity, performance quality and efficiency of health services in hospitals. The program is in line with the National Transformation Program 2020 towards achieving the Saudi Vision 2030. The program covers 70 hospitals and features over 40 indicators to measure the performance of seven key therapeutic aspects.
