According to Riyadh Health Affairs, the second stage of the campaign to reduce obesity rates will be launched at the beginning of the new school year.
Ministry of Health (MOH) had inaugurated the first stage of the initiative to reduce obesity rates among school students, in collaboration with Ministry of Education, at the beginning of the second school semester, February 2017. The initiative was implemented in 160 public and private schools, for boys and girls, which were connected with the nearest health center. More than 50,000 male and female students had their weight, height and BMI calculated. The first stage also included lectures on the importance of balanced food and physical activity, and raising awareness about the health problems associated with obesity by doctors of the health centers, in addition to referring obese male and female students to health centers for treatment.
