Samtah General Hospital Excises 20-cm Long Appendix from Patient
15 March 2017
A medical team at Samtah General Hospital, Jazan Region, has saved the life of a 17-year old patient who came to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain. Required medical tests revealed that the patient has acute appendicitis that necessitates immediate surgical intervention.

The patient was taken to the operation room to perform an appendectomy. However, during the operation the surgical team discovered that the appendix was inflamed and attached to the posterior abdominal wall. The appendix length was 20 cm, 19 cm was excised and 1 cm remained in the abdomen, which is considered the longest and rare type in the appendectomy cases. The patient left the hospital in good condition, thanks to Allah.
