15 November 2016
The Ministry of Health (MOH0 has commenced to implement the second phase of Linear Particle Accelerator (Cyclotron) Project. A construction project has been awarded for processing Cyclotron’s location, and then the second phase of Cyclotron Project has been awarded after the location has been processed.

The MOH stated that Cyclotron Project is available at King Fahd Specialist Hospital (KFSH) in Dammam, providing its services for both public and private sectors in the Eastern Region. It went on adding that it completed the first phase of the establishment of Cyclotron device and location in February 2013. Thus, the production of radioactive materials began in September 2013 with a production capacity of up to 18 MeV, after obtaining the licenses required for operation from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).

Within the same vein the MOH has pointed out that of Linear Particle Accelerator (Cyclotron) is an accelerator of atomic particles, as a mini nuclear reactor, to produce radioactive materials for the medical use of tumor diagnosis. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is universally categorized as a product manufactured well in practice and performance.
