MOH: ‘21 Mental Health Hospitals with 4,046-Bed Capacity for Serving Psychopaths’

The Ministry of Health (MOH) revealed that it intends to establish 14 projects for mental health and addiction treatment throughout the Kingdom’s regions, as part of its future plans and within its endeavors to improve and develop its mental health services.
 
Within the same vein, it pointed out that the number of mental health complexes and hospitals across the Kingdom amounted to 21 hospitals (with 4,046-bed capacity), in addition to more than 99 mental clinics annexed to general and specialized hospitals. These hospitals are served by specialized medical teams, including 728 psychiatrists, 3,346 nurses, 523 psychologists, and 909 social workers.
 
 Over and above, the Ministry highlighted the effective role of the National Committee for the Promotion of Mental Health, which aims at promoting the mental health among the community members, by means of raising the awareness and culture of mental diseases, its causes, and how to deal with them, as well as helping the psychopaths and their families get therapeutic and rehabilitative services, in an endeavor to lead a better life.
Furthermore, the Ministry underlined that psychiatric and mental health service is an integrated system of services, shared by a number of ministries and relevant bodies.
It is worth mentioning that the MOH’s mental and social hospitals have received 382,762 outpatients and 33,989 inpatients over the past year.
