WHO Commends Kingdom's Efforts to Combat MERS-CoV, Refutes Reuters Report about the Organization
23 June 2016
The Ministry of Health's (MOH) spokesman declared that the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a press statement refuting what a Reuter correspondent has incorrectly said about a WHO previous statement on the Kingdom. The WHO commended the Kingdom’s efforts in fighting the outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome – Corona Virus (MERS-COV), and commended its transparency in declaring the cases on a daily basis, meanwhile highlighting that the MOH's Portal is reckoned the main source of any information about MERS-COV in the Kingdom.

In its statement, the WHO announced: “The first MERS-CoV case was not incorrectly diagnosed as reported by Reuters. Some media reports have given inaccurate analysis and erroneously quoted some details about MERS-COV in the Kingdom from the WHO official website on page: ‘Disease Outbreak News’.”

The WHO pointed out that the Kingdom has increased its efforts and keeps on developing its response to the prevention against MERS-CoV and the early detection of these cases in the community, as well controlling any outbreaks at hospitals. Within the same vein, WHO lauded the Kingdom daily announcement of MERS-CoV cases.

The MOH spokesman underlined that the Kingdom adopts full transparency in dealing with any MERS-CoV outbreaks and applies international standards, in coordination with the WHO, to fight any new outbreak, and that the MOH publishes, via its Portal and its account on Twitter, a statement about MERS-CoV on a daily basis and with full transparency and accuracy.
