MOH Statement on the MERS-CoV Cases Recorded at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Buraidah
05 March 2016
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has announced that three cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) have been diagnosed at King Fahad Specialist Hospital (KFSH) in Buraydah over the past 24 hours, in addition to other two cases diagnosed at the same hospital during the past three days. Therefore, the Command and Control Center (CCC) has declared a state of preparation for patients’ safety at the highest level. The quick response teams and epidemiological surveillance teams have taken the measures adopted in such conditions to eliminate the virus transmission and ensure the implementation of the infection control requirements at all sections of the hospital.

These measures included referring the inpatients to other hospitals, as well as referring those cases, who are scheduled in urgent need of treatment, to other medical institutions where the requested services provided. Hence, the appointments have been re-scheduled for those cases, according to their health status, and visits have been suspended to the whole hospital. Besides, the Ministry called on patients to adhere to respiratory screening procedures set by health facilities at the entrances of their emergency sections, and to cooperate with the hospital staff to implement all instructions designed to protect them and safeguard their health.

It is worth mentioning that the MOH has reiterated its commitment to provide the highest level of protection against the disease for citizens, and called on them to follow the guidelines that have already been declared for the promotion of this prevention.
