Dr. Al-Ghamdi Inaugurates a Training Course for Developing the Skills of Hospital Directors

   The Assistant Deputy Minister of Health for Hospital Affairs, Dr. Aqeel bin Jam'an Al-Ghamdi, stated that the Ministry of Health (MOH) has been always making every effort in pursuit of providing best-quality health services, placing particular emphasis on the development of the total quality of the health service provided at the various hospitals, health centers, specialized centers and research centers, with a view to putting into effect the MOH slogan: “Patient First”.
 
On the inauguration of the Training Course for Developing the Skills of Hospital Directors, held today, April 14th, 2012, under the patronage of His Excellency the Deputy Minister for Health Affairs, Dr. Mansour bin Nasser Al-Howasi, Dr. Al-Ghamdi pointed out that the development of health services is closely and basically related to training. He expressed his hope that the course will prove effective in performance development, as well as the improvement of health services provided for citizens, wishing success for all participants.
 
For his part, the Director-General of Hospitals, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hamed Al-Ghamdi, expounded that this developmental program comes within the framework of the colossal efforts currently exerted with the aim to develop the performance of MOH hospitals. It comes, also, as part of an integrated training program, seeking to improve the performance of hospital directors, by getting them familiarized with the basics of hospital management, providing them with the necessary management skills, by getting them familiarized with the basic principles of management and healthcare quality, as well as the concept and elements of leadership and the basic skills required for an effective leader. That's to be added to the importance of resources and services at health institutions, and the acquisition of basic skills of the effective leader: (communication skills, skills and qualities of the effective manager, work teams management, risk management and patient safety).
 
He added that the course involves workshops with the senior staff and directors-general of the MOH general departments, so as to identify the tasks and responsibilities of these departments, and solve the problems facing hospitals' directors and answering their questions.
 
He added, “The course will be given by a constellation of specialized trainers in the fields of hospital management and human development. That's to be added to the participation of a number of directors-general in the workshops meant to giving the instructions and guidance necessary for hospitals' directors, as well as answering their questions.”
 
He pointed out the course is organized by the MOH Hospital General Department, in cooperation with the Training and Scholarship General Department for 150-300-bed hospitals. A number of 28 hospital directors, from 12 regions, participate in this course.
