Dr. AL Rabeeah: This Center Shows the Kings Concern

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz ordered to establish King Abdullah's Center for Tumors and Liver Disease. The center consists of 21 floors with a capacity of 300 beds at a total cost of 906 million SR at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh. This was clarified by the President of the Board of Directors General of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz AL Rabeeah.
 
Dr. AL Rabeeah added that the contract for the center establishment was signed today with a national company. This Center shows the attention and care of the King in order to provide the best specialized health care to the citizens. He ordered to establish this Center according to the standards of advanced international centers. The center consists of 21 floors covering an area of 2.231.83 square meter with a capacity of 300 beds, where it's divided into 206 tumor beds, 34 tumor intensive care beds, 43 liver beds and 17 liver intensive care beds. In addition, the center also contains 8 inpatient departments, 2 endoscopy rooms and 22 one day surgery units.
 
The Minister expressed his thanks and appreciation to the King, the Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General and Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior; for supporting this project.
 
Executive General Supervisor of the Foundation, Dr. Qasim Qasabi, who signed the contract with the president of AL Bawani Company, indicated that the center includes a radiation therapy department which includes 8 linear accelerators, 2 CT scanners, and MRI scanner. The project's outpatient clinics include 18 tumor clinics, 18 bone marrow cultivation and blood diseases clinics, 14 liver clinics, 12 surgical clinics in addition to other various specializations. The center also includes medical support services departments; physical therapy department covering an area of 2.818 square meter, radiation therapy department covering an area of 2.5601 square meter, respiratory therapy department, dental department, blood bank and various laboratories. The center is provided by electrical power through an advanced electric power station covering an area of 2.677.12 square meter, medical waste processing facility and parking lots.
 
Dr. Qasabi assured that King Abdullah Center for Tumors and Liver Disease, is designed by an American company specialized in designing hospitals in cooperation with a Saudi engineering office in the modernist  technical methods, is going to be great for tumors and liver patients. He emphasized its important role in facing the increasing numbers of tumor patients. Especially that the Saudi National Cancer Registry Statistics on 2006 indicated 11040 cancer case that is able to increase reaching  21000 cases on 2020 duo to the population growth. King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center has provided and improved cancer medical services and researches. The amount of treated cases up till 2009 reached 67108 cases, 57037 chemotherapy courses, 191139 radiotherapy courses, where 2269 stem cell transplantation cases was done by the year of 2009.    
 
In conclusion of his statement, he mentioned that King Abdullah Center for Tumors and Liver Disease will be in the same distinguished level of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, which is considered according to the statistics of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research in the U.S one of the greatest centers in the world regarding the amount of bone marrow transplant cases. This will push the specialized health system to cope with modern technology in a beneficial way.
