New Hajj garment patented
10 June 2007
King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology offered Dr. Taha Al-Khateeb, the MOH Director General of Hajj and Omrah Health Services, a patent for a new invention called "The Protective Garment for Mohrim". A patent owner has the right to benefit from all rights provided by the Patents, Drawings of Integrated Circuits, Plant Varieties, and Industrial Models Act.

Dr. Al-Khateeb said the new garment is a cloth covering the area from the lower abdomen to the lower thighs. Not being sewed, it can be worn by the pilgrim or Omra performer under the "Ihram" for preventing friction of the two thighs with the sexual organs and surrounding areas.

According to Al-Khateebm the new garment is patented sine 1425 by the Kingdom General Mufti Shiekh Abdul Aziz Al Al-Shaikh, who said when the garment was shown to him "There is no problem in wearing this protective garment by the Mohrim upon need".

He said the new garment is useful for preventing skin sloughs associated with the sweats and secretions in the lower part of the body, which is caused by going for long distances in hot and humid weather during Hajj and Omrah rituals. Studies of common diseases during Hajj and Omrah seasons have shown that skin diseases, especially skin sloughs between the two thighs, are more common among men than among women due to the fact that women are allowed to dress sewed garment during Hajj.
