Forensic medicine society to be established, says Al-Yahia

The Saudi Commission for Health Specialties has approved the establishment of a Saudi society for forensic medicine, said forensic medicine specialist and representative of the foundation committee Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Yahia.
 
He said the decision aims at organizing and developing the works of forensic medicine in the Kingdom, encouraging new medical graduates to specialize in forensic medicine, developing performances of forensic medicine specialists through organizing training courses, convening scientific conferences on forensic medicine, creating a link for exchange of ideas and expertise among forensic medicine specialists, etc.
 
"The new society is expected to raise the efficiency of forensic medicine specialists and will work as a reference for them in the Kingdom", he said.
He denoted the importance of forensic medicine in detecting crimes, expressing his regret regarding the few numbers of forensic medicine specialists in the Kingdom. Dr. "There are many factors which have forced medical specialists to refrain from specializing in forensic medicine", he said "We must find out those factors and try to seek solutions for them in order to encourage physicians to enroll into this line of specialization", he said.
