World Arthritis Day

Overview:
Arthritis means inflammation or swelling of one or more joints, and it can be described into more than 100 types, affecting the joints, tissues around the joint, or other connective tissues. Specific symptoms vary depending on the type of arthritis, but usually include pain, swelling, and joint stiffness and impaired mobility. Treatment varies according to the severity and type of the condition. International Arthritis Day is celebrated on the twelfth of October annually.

Objectives:
  • Awareness of the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Awareness of the way to prevent arthritis and reduce its risks.
  • Encouraging early detection of arthritis.
Facts:
  • ​The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis. Other common forms include gout, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. 
  • Arthritis can limit the type of work that can be done or keep you from working at all.
  • physical activity such as: walking, bicycling, and swimming decreases arthritis pain and improves function, mood, and quality of life.
  • people can reduce their risk of knee osteoarthritis by controlling their weight
