Mental health is an important and integral part of public health, and health is not complete without mental health. It includes the emotional, psychological, and social well-being that affects the way you think, feel, act, and communicate with others. It also helps determine how to deal with stress and pressure and make the right decisions. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence to adulthood and old age. World Mental Health Day is celebrated on October 10 every year, which aims at raising awareness of mental health issues around the world, and dedicating efforts to support mental health.
Facts:
- Mental health problems are one of the main reasons for the increasing burden of general disease worldwide.
- Mental health and behavioral problems such as: depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are reported to be the main drivers of disability worldwide, causing more than 40 million cases of disability between the ages of 20 to 29 years.
- It is estimated that 1 in 6 people last week suffered from a common psychological problem.
- Practicing physical activity and relaxation exercises, avoiding stress, accompanying positive people, and seeking help when needed, enhance mental health, and lead to a better quality of life.
