The Ministry of Health urged pilgrims to review the
guidance on the proper use of sun umbrellas, emphasizing the importance of following preventive measures to reduce health risks associated with direct sun exposure, especially while moving between the holy sites.
The guide explains that using an umbrella is an effective preventive measure that helps reduce the risk of heat exhaustion, heatstroke, and dehydration. It also protects against ultraviolet (UV) rays, enhancing pilgrims’ safety and helping them perform their rituals safely and comfortably. In addition, an umbrella can reduce the surrounding temperature by approximately 10°C.
The Ministry also stressed the importance of following safety guidance for proper umbrella use and care, including securing it with a wrist strap, folding and storing it properly for repeated use, and avoiding discarding it after completing the rituals. These efforts are part of the health system’s awareness initiatives to promote prevention and safeguard pilgrims’ health throughout the Hajj season.
