  • Support multisectoral collaboration to implement effective drowning prevention interventions and policies.

Facts:

  • Approximately 300,000 people died from drowning globally in 2021, despite a 38% decline in the global drowning mortality rate since 2000.
  • Nearly half of all drowning deaths occur among people under 29 years of age, while approximately one-quarter occur among children under five.
  • Most drowning deaths can be prevented by implementing the interventions and preventive measures recommended by the World Health Organization.
