World Food Safety Day is observed annually on June 7 to raise awareness of preventing and managing foodborne risks. It promotes food security, protects human health, supports economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism, and sustainable development.

- Access to sufficient safe and nutritious food is essential for sustaining life and promoting good health.
- Food safety is closely linked to nutrition and food security. Unsafe food contributes to illness and malnutrition, particularly among infants, young children, older adults, and people with illnesses.
- Unsafe food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites, or harmful chemicals causes more than 200 diseases, ranging from diarrhea to cancer.
- Approximately 600 million people become ill each year after eating contaminated food, and 420,000 die annually.
- Diarrheal diseases are the most common foodborne illnesses, affecting 550 million people and causing 230,000 deaths every year.
