World Myopia Awareness Week 2026

World Myopia Awareness Week 2026

Overview:

World Myopia Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of myopia, one of the most common vision problems worldwide. Also known as nearsightedness, myopia is a condition in which distant objects appear blurry. It usually begins in childhood and may continue to progress until around the age of 18. If left unmanaged, especially in children, it may increase the risk of other eye conditions. The campaign promotes early eye examinations, preventive measures, and outdoor activities to help slow the progression of myopia.

Objectives:

  • Encourage the public to undergo early eye examinations and seek appropriate treatment.
  • Raise awareness of the complications associated with myopia.
  • Increase public understanding of the causes of myopia and ways to prevent it.

Official Date:

Globally: May 23rd–28th, 2026.
