Overview:
Celiac disease is a condition in which the immune system attacks the body's tissues when foods containing gluten are consumed. Gluten is a dietary protein found in three types of grains: wheat, barley, and corn.

Celiac disease includes a range of symptoms, including diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating.

Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of celiac disease.
  • Educate people with celiac disease about the appropriate lifestyle for managing their condition.

Facts:

  • Reported cases of celiac disease are higher among women than men.
  • The risk of developing celiac disease is higher in people with autoimmune thyroid diseases, type 1 diabetes, Down syndrome, and Turner syndrome.
  • Celiac disease can develop at any age.
